FURNITURE FACTS

Mahogany(wood)

There are 2 main types of mahogany, African and central American, the latter being lighter and softer than the former. The natural lustre and irregularities in the grain produce a rich variety of figure such as fiddleback bister and roe. It is red in colour and carves well due to the hard nature of this wood. It became popular in England replacing walnut, when the cold winter in France killed off the walnut trees in the year 1720.
