Beds - A buyer's Guide

The bed is a product that is difficult to form a personal judgement by sight or touch. Out there in the market are a variety of different types of beds to chose from. The main types are divan sets, beds with a head and footend , futons, waterbeds and adjustable beds. The choice of mattresses vary from pocket sprung beds, open coil springs latex and memory foam

When buying  bed make sure that you spend time to try as many beds as possible, taking your time to chose the bed of your choice. A list of bed manufacturers and retailers can be found by going to the home page of www.furniturebuyer.info so do your research on the internet before ypu go looking around.

The mattresses sold to day are mainly sprung mattresses. The pocket type of spring consists of springs with a diameter of 6-8cms in diameter. Each spring is completely enclosed in an individual pocket usually of calico material. The springs are nested together and tied or clipped together. The “open” type springs made in to a complete unit to fit the size of the mattress.

For the partner of a restless sleeper the pocket sprung mattress has its advantages. The individual springs contour with the body more, and movement on other section of the mattress is kept to the minimum. To go one step better than this it is often possible to have a zipped and linked mattresses, e.g. two 90cm mattresses to make up a 180cm bed.

It is important to check the size of your bedroom, and get the right size bed.

Beds come in different tensions. If you have a bad back a rock hard orthopaedic is not always the answer. It is best to check with your doctor about this. Many find the memory foam mattresses good.

Lastly some tip, never buy a bed because you like the cover as it will be covered up with the bed covers.  Remember you spend much of your life in bed so spend as much as you can afford.
